The Allman Brothers Band: 2014-10-21 Live at Beacon Theatre, New York, NY, October 21, 2014

Opening night of the band’s final Beacon Theatre run carried a special charge. The Allman Brothers Band answered it with a strong, celebratory performance that reminded everyone why this lineup has thrived for so long.

They came out swinging with “Don’t Want You No More” into “It’s Not My Cross to Bear,” Derek’s slide cutting sharply and Warren’s blues lines stretching with purpose. “Hot ’Lanta” locked in tightly and powerfully, Gregg’s organ and the twin guitars trading crisp, energetic turns. The first set’s clearest peak arrived on “Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody’s Home,” where Warren and Oteil locked into a driving, funky exchange that lifted the whole band. Later, “True Gravity” unfolded with real scale and beauty, the guitars soaring and intertwining before the set closed gracefully on “You Don’t Love Me” sliding into a lovely instrumental “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.”

The second set kept the momentum high. “One Way Out” and an Oteil-powered “Stand Back” set a strong groove, “Spots of Time” delivered spacious, interlocking guitar work, and “Revival” sparked the room. “The Sky Is Crying” became a classic blues showcase—Warren digging deep, Derek answering with thick, expressive slide. “In Memory of Elizabeth Reed” closed the set with Gregg contributing a fine organ solo amid the guitars’ interplay. The concise “No One Left to Run With” encore sent everyone out on a high note.

Gregg’s voice stayed clear and in command throughout, while Haynes and Trucks delivered the dual-guitar fire that defines this era of the band. The rhythm section stayed locked and supportive from start to finish. It was a vibrant, well-played opening night—full of strong performances and memorable moments that left the crowd energized for the rest of the farewell run.
