The Allman Brothers Band: 2014-10-22 Live at Beacon Theatre, New York, NY, October 22, 2014

The second night of the final Beacon run delivered another strong, engaging performance filled with blues fire, exploratory jams, and the signature dual-guitar interplay of Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks.

The band opened with a sharp one-two-three of “Statesboro Blues,” a fiery “I Walk On Gilded Splinters” that simmered and built, and “Trouble No More.” Warren then took the lead on “Who’s Been Talking,” a moody Howlin’ Wolf cover that featured dancing lines, plenty of space, and a beautiful extended outro where the guitars darted and intertwined. “Don’t Keep Me Wonderin’” rode elastic jamming and Oteil Burbridge’s lively bass, while “Dusk Till Dawn” stretched out in brooding, exploratory fashion. The first set closed with a powerful “Black Hearted Woman” that surged like a freight train, weaving through an “Other One” jam and an impromptu instrumental “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” where Derek burned brightly and Warren joined in harmony—a layered, standout sequence.

The second set opened with the crowd-pleasing “Melissa,” followed by a guitar-driven “The Same Thing” that let Warren and Derek square off. “Come and Go Blues” and “Desdemona” showcased airy, yearning solos and flashy slide work, while “Southbound” brought pure energy. The set closed with a big, thunderous “Mountain Jam,” full of surging rhythms, playful guitar lines, Gregg’s bubbling organ, a dynamic bass-and-drums section, and interlocking guitar harmonies that carried it through a false ending and final theme. The encore, a jaunty “One Way Out,” sent the night out on a high note.

Gregg’s voice stayed strong, the rhythm section locked in tightly, and the Haynes-Trucks guitar tandem delivered lightning moments throughout—including stretches with Derek on Duane’s gold-top. It was a vibrant night of classic Allman Brothers energy and high-flying highlights that kept the farewell run rolling with real momentum.
